This year’s season for the girls’ golf team was a hole in one! From finally being able to compete as a team last year to this year having an individual – Tori Colborne – place 25th in the state tournament, they have certainly had an amazing season. Coach Monica Godfrey said she is so proud of her girls and their growth this season. This season, the players were Tori Colborne (junior), Chloe Rowe (senior), Macklyn Weeg (senior), Julissa Sumner (senior), and Kayla McCorry (freshman). Additionally, the team had Jocelyn Johnson (freshman) who was a JV player and got the opportunity to play one match this season. Lastly, the team had two developmental players who were learning the game but didn’t compete in matches: Mia Collins (junior) and MiAmerica Yanez (sophomore). When speaking about the team this year, Coach Godfrey reminisced, “Our girls have each had great moments throughout the season and I am very pleased with their improvement and performance.” The following is what the players had to say about the season, as they all said they had unforgettable memories.

Chloe Rowe:

“My senior year of being on this amazing golf team was definitely a year to remember. I’ve made new friends this year, along with making so many fun memories. We always know how to make dreadful practices a fun time and we’re always making each other laugh. One of my favorite memories was when we traveled to Lake Havasu for a tournament. On the long bus ride there we passed the time by talking, playing silly road trip games, and doing other random things to make each other laugh. I’ll always hold a special place in my heart for this team and am definitely going to miss it.”

Tori Colborne:

“My favorite memory of this season was getting to connect and grow closer with all of the girls and coaches. We had a lot of fun laughs and moments throughout the season. Specifically, I really enjoyed the drive to Lake Havasu when we all bonded and talked together. I also loved being able to compete in the state championship this year. This season was a blast and I can’t wait for next year!”

Additionally, Coach Godfrey said about the team, “A favorite memory was our trip to Lake Havasu.  The golf course was beautiful as it sat above the water in the distance and the girls all played well that day.  We then stopped at the London Bridge for lunch and took pictures together, which was very fun because our girls are goofy.  This group of girls is a lot of fun to be around – practices, matches, and white fleet rides are always a lot of fun!  We had a great time this season!”

Not only did the team walk away with wonderful memories, but they also had fantastic accomplishments throughout the season. In order for a girls golf team to qualify for state championships as a team, they have to place in the top 12 within their division. Our girls competed in Division 2, which is highly competitive. They were so close to qualifying for state, as they placed 15th as a team, leaving their coaches and fellow teammates feeling accomplished with their performance. Although they didn’t qualify as a team to compete in state, Colborne was in the top 18 girls, so she qualified as an individual to compete. Colborne worked diligently throughout the season. Coach Godfrey notes that her driving and chipping are especially impressive. She loves her knowledge of the game as a young player and is looking forward to her competing again next year. Colborne finished her season tying for 25th place at the state championships.

If you see any girls golf team members at school, be sure to congratulate them on their successful season. They had a positive team camaraderie, competed hard, made fun memories, and each improved as both players and individuals this season. We can’t wait to see you play and cheer you all on again next fall. Good luck to all of the seniors; we wish you a bright future!
